Final Approach Simulations has done a great job in recreating this airport for FSX and P3D, with features such as:

  • Realistic main terminal with jetways (non animated) and ground vehicles.

  • Custom buildings and hangars.

  • Custom ground textures.

  • High quality photo scenery ground with seasonal changes.

  • Custom airline parking.

  • Open hangars that can be parked inside of.

  • Extra parking for general aviation aircraft.

  • Custom runways and gate textures.

  • Static aircraft (optional).

  • Airport is illuminated with lights at night.

  • Multiple fuel trucks.

  • Included seaplane base and helipad.

  • Compatible with FSDreamTeamâs GSX.

The airport is also planned to have the main runway extended. There will be a free update that will include extended runways once it happens.

The scenery is available for purchase from simMarket for EUR 14.41. It requires FSX (SP2), FSX: Acceleration, FSX: Steam Edition or Prepar3D V1.4, 2.0 or 3.3. The file size is 161.20 MB.

I have installed the scenery on my FSX: Steam Edition and tested it with various aircraft and weather settings. I was impressed by the level of detail and realism that Final Approach Simulations has achieved. The airport blends well with the surrounding scenery and the performance was smooth on my system. The terminal building looks very accurate and the ground textures are crisp and clear. The seaplane base and the helipad add some variety to the airport operations and are fun to explore. The night lighting is also well done and creates a nice atmosphere.

The only minor drawback I found was that the jetways are not animated, which means you have to use GSX or another addon to connect them to your aircraft. However, this is not a major issue and does not affect the overall quality of the scenery.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this scenery to anyone who wants to fly to or from Toronto City Airport. It is a well-designed and realistic airport that will enhance your flight simulation experience. Final Approach Simulations has done an excellent job in bringing this airport to life in FSX and P3D.

If you are interested in the history of Toronto City Airport, you might want to know that it was originally built in 1939 as a municipal airport for Toronto. It was named Port George VI Island Airport, after the reigning monarch at the time. During World War II, the airport was used as a training base for the Royal Norwegian Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, the airport resumed its civilian operations and became a hub for regional airlines and charter flights.

In 2009, the airport was renamed Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, in honour of Billy Bishop, a Canadian flying ace and Victoria Cross recipient in World War I. The airport also underwent a major renovation and expansion project, which included the construction of a new terminal building, a pedestrian tunnel to connect the airport with the mainland, and improvements to the runway and taxiway system. The airport also introduced new security measures and noise abatement procedures to address the concerns of the local residents and environmental groups.
